A Study of Stress, Anxiety and Depression among Patients with Chronic Back Pain: A Cross-Sectional Analysis

Objectives: To study the prevalence of stress, depression and anxiety in patients with chronic back pain and to correlate with socio demographic variables. Methods: A total of 60 patients with chronic back pain attending Orthopaedic Out Patient’s Department (OPD) as well as admitted in the Orthopaedic ward for investigation or therapeutic purposes in Santhiram General Hospital during the study period were selected by purposive sampling. These patients were assessed by applying Depression Anxiety Stress Scales (DASS21). Proportion was compared using chi-square test, scores of scales were compared using the Mann- Whitney test and Kruskal-Walli’s test followed by Dunn’s post-hoc multiple comparisons.
